Stainless steel is not a single alloy but an iron based alloys containing a minimum of 10.5% chromium. Other elements such as nickel and molybdenum are added and the chromium content increased to improve corrosion resistance, improve heat resisting properties, and improved fabricating characteristics.Stainless steel does not readily corrode, rust or stain with water as ordinary steel does. There are different grades and surface finishes of stainless steel to suit the environment the alloy must endure. Stainless steel is used where both the properties of steel and corrosion resistance are required.
